This site exists to help United States homeowners make one decision well: what to do about a damp basement, and whether a dehumidifier is the right tool for the job.
What we cover
Four subjects, each with its own hub: sizing a unit to the space and the dampness level, setting it up and draining it, troubleshooting when it is not keeping up, and comparing models on published specifications. We also cover the boundary case that most appliance content ignores — the basements where an appliance is the wrong answer and drainage, grading or plumbing work is the right one.
How the content is researched
Guidance comes from federal agencies and standards bodies: the EPA for humidity targets and mold cleanup thresholds, the Department of Energy for the dehumidifier test procedure, ENERGY STAR for certification and efficiency data, AHAM for capacity guidance, the Energy Information Administration for electricity prices, and CDC material for health context. Each article lists the sources it relies on at the bottom, with the date we last checked them.
How product comparisons are created
Comparisons are built from a central product database. Every entry records the manufacturer, exact model number, published specifications, a specification source URL, and the date we last verified it.
