Do you test these dehumidifiers?
No. We do not have a laboratory. Every specification on these pages comes from the manufacturer's published documentation or a government listing such as the ENERGY STAR product finder, is attributed to that source, and carries the date we last checked it.
How do you decide which units to include?
Units must be currently available in the United States, have a published model number and manufacturer specification sheet, and cover a capacity class relevant to basements. Where a specification is not published, we say so rather than estimating it.
Do manufacturers pay for placement?
No. No manufacturer pays for inclusion, position or wording, and no manufacturer reviews drafts before publication. Some links are affiliate links, which is disclosed on every page that uses them.
Why do capacity numbers here look lower than on older articles?
The federal test procedure changed in 2019 and now tests at 65F rather than 80F. A unit formerly labeled 70 pints is typically labeled about 50 pints today with no hardware change, so older shopping advice reads one class too large.
