Dehumidifier For Basement — sizing, setup and buying guide

Editorial Policy

Written by the Dehumidifier for Basement editorial team and reviewed for source accuracy. Last updated July 2026.

Everything published here is written to one rule: a reader should be able to check any factual claim against a source we name.

Approved sources

We rely on the following, roughly in this order of preference:

  1. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
  2. ENERGY STAR
  3. U.S. Department of Energy
  4. U.S. Energy Information Administration
  5. CDC and NIOSH
  6. AHAM
  7. ASHRAE
  8. Official manufacturer manuals and specification pages
  9. Government and university extension publications

Sources are kept in a single registry so a changed URL or a new verification date updates every page at once. Current registry entries:

Fact-checking process

Before publication, every numeric claim is traced to a named source, every product specification is matched to a manufacturer page or a government listing, and any figure that cannot be traced is either removed or labeled “Not published by the manufacturer.” Approximate conversions — such as comparing capacity ratings from before and after the federal test-procedure change — are presented as approximate and model-dependent, never as exact equivalents.

Prohibited claims

We do not write “we tested,” “lab tested,” “our testing found,” or “proven best,” because we do not run a laboratory. We do not publish fabricated credentials, placeholder expert names, invented certifications, fake ratings or review counts, or structured data for people who do not exist. We do not promise that a dehumidifier prevents or cures illness.

Update process

Pages carry a last-updated date. Sources are re-checked when a page is revised, when a federal standard changes, or when a manufacturer alters a published specification. Product prices and availability age fastest and are treated as indicative only.

Corrections

Errors are corrected promptly and noted where the change is material. See the corrections policy for how to report one.
