What size dehumidifier does a basement need?
Roughly 30 pints up to 1,000 sq ft, 50 pints for 1,000-1,800 sq ft, and 70+ pints above 1,800 sq ft — then one size up for cold, unfinished, multi-room or humid-climate basements. All figures use the DOE 2019 rating scale.
Will a dehumidifier stop basement mold?
Only when the moisture is airborne. If water is entering through foundation cracks, block cores or the wall/floor joint, growth continues behind finishes until that path is repaired.
Is continuous drainage necessary?
