We have not independently laboratory-tested these products. Every score below is derived from published manufacturer specifications and government listings, and any category without published data is left unscored rather than guessed.
How products are selected
- The model must be sold in the United States and currently obtainable.
- The manufacturer must publish a specification page or manual we can cite.
- The model must be plausible for basement use — capacity, drainage and operating temperature suited to an unconditioned below-grade space.
- Discontinued or hard-to-find models may appear for context but never as the primary recommendation.
Scoring categories and weights

Unavailable data scores nothing
If a manufacturer does not publish a figure, the specification table shows “Not published by the manufacturer” and that category is excluded from the model’s score, with the remaining weights normalized. A missing figure is not treated as a bad figure, and it is never estimated.
Language we do not use
Because no laboratory testing takes place, comparison pages never say we tested, we measured, our testing found, lab tested, best-performing in our test, or proven best. Where a limitation is real but unquantified, we say so plainly.
Commercial relationships
Product links may be affiliate links, disclosed at the top of every comparison page and in the affiliate disclosure. Scores are computed from the specification database before any commercial consideration, and a merchant relationship never adds or removes points.
